Not the pale jade of decorative objects, but imperial jade, the saturated green once paid for in gold. In shadow it passes for black. In sun it opens completely. Across the relief a dark green behaves differently, holding light in the hollow and releasing it along the ridge. Beside gold, it turns heraldic.
